Munich Oktoberfest is one of the largest festivals of the world. Over 6 millions of indigenous people and tourists are visiting the “Wiesn” (Munich Oktoberfest) every year. Besides a wide range of thrill rides, there are beer tents, in which an extremely tasty brewed beer with higher alcohol content (approx. 6-7%) is brewed especially for the Oktoberfest. On 17th October 1810 a horse race took place on a wide meadow in celebration of the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. Since that time the meadow is called: Theresienwiese.

History of the theatre:

Already at the foundation time the programme was dominated by operettas, song plays and folk plays and is marked till this day beside the serious opera also by the lighter types of the music theatre.

The gardener’s place theatre was founded in 1865 as “an Actien-national theatre”. In 1872 it was appointed by king Ludwig II to the third court stage. Since 1937 it is under care of the Bavarian free state.

History:
The German theatre was opened in 1896 as a house for naturalistic-realistic speech theatre. In 1897 the change occurred in an institution for high entertainment theatre.
